New Clutch, New Post

I am looking forward to Clutch's new one hitting shelves March 19th. It will remain a surprise to me until then. In the meantime, I would recommend www.pro-rock.com for all your Clutch needs. They had some pretty cool studio videos and Jean Paul rockin' on the skins.

Can't wait for this one.

Gary Clark, Jr.

If you've not heard of this guy yet, do yourself a favor and check out this NPR broadcast he did at the end of 2011.  Gary is a super smooth and talented guitarist with an outstanding voice.  He pulls off some gritty, raw blues of all styles with success.  He's got an EP out, and "Bright Lights" is a bad ass song.

The End?

Hello all.  I know I'm probably pretty late with this, but I just noticed all my links through megaupload are now dead.  It actually looks like all of megaupload and mediafire are dead as of now.  So, I'm using this post to inform the four people that check this blog that all of the links I've posted are down.

In the meantime, I'll continue to share new tunes and artists via whatever outlets are available (youtube, etc...).

Peace for now.

New Old Van Halen!

While I was on my Van Halen kick, I ran across this new gem, just released last year (or possibly 2010).  I think this is from the Diver Down tour.  It's a fairly rough live recording, but better than some bootlegs I've heard.  Especially good for the time 1983 or 1984 or so if it's the Diver Down tour.

The quality is okay.  It definitely captures the energy of an early-eighties Van Halen show.  Dave forgets some lyrics and the band gets a little loose at times, but overall I really dig it.  Don't expect a polished, live recording or performance, but do expect rockin' Van Halen tunes and a hell of a good listen.  Hell, I'm listening to it for the second time as I post this.

Track listing:

Romeo Delight
Unchained/Drum Solo
The Full Bug
Runnin' with the Devil
Jamie's Cryin'
So This is Love
Little Guitars
Dancing in the Street
Somebody Get Me a Doctor/Girl Gone Bad/I'm So Glad
Dance the Night Away
Secrets
Everybody Wants Some
Ice Cream Man
Pretty Woman
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love

A Different Kind of Truth

Van Halen - Tattoo from Van Halen on Vimeo.

So, back in the day I was the biggest Van Halen fan.  I mean crazy.  I loved both eras of Van Halen, and then in college, when "III" came out with Gary Cherone, I really started drifting.  Now, don't get me wrong, I love Cherone's voice, and I really dug Extreme at times, but I thought the Van Halen shit was weak.  Not just vocally, but the album just never really came together for me.  And, it wasn't from a lack of trying.

Now, with David Lee Roth back as the frontman, and Wolfgang "Wolfie" Van Halen on bass (I don't know the story with Michael Anthony, but rumors suggest he was ousted to provide a spot for little Wolfie) the band is back with a new album dropping February 7th.  I'm excited.  If for no other reason than my guitar hero will be putting out some new music.

So, in the mean time, check out the new single "Tattoo".  I will keep my opinions about it to myself for now, but I'd love to hear some feedback from any Van Halen or Van Hagar fans, and see what you think.

El Camino

Good morning.  And a Happy New Year to all who check out this blog.  I hope 2012 is as full of great music as 2011.

Today, I bring you the latest by The Black Keys.  Overall, rockin' band (if you haven't heard of them yet), and this one seems to pick up for me where Brothers left off.  Their sound has been in constant evolution, but they seem to have a good formula to fall back on.  If you like fuzzy, dirty blues rock with a catchy, pop sensibility, then give this a shot.

I guess my main negative about this album is the damn Chrysler-looking minivan they use for the cover photo when the album is called El Camino.  One article said the van was the same type they toured in and with back in the early days.

Opeth Live

Okay, I apologize again for the long absence.  The HD replacement came with a few unforeseen problems, but hopefully, I'm back up and running for longer than a day or so at a time.

I ran across this on Amazon in mp3 download format.  I've not been able to find much on it except for HERE.

The first track is "The Devil's Orchard" from Heritage.  And, the rest are live tracks from Rock Hard Festival 2009.  I've not had a chance to listen to all of this one yet, but I hope you dig it.

New Lamb of God

Wow!  I just noticed the date on my last post.  I"m sorry I've been away so long.  My hard drive went down, and set in motion a whirlwind of silly shit to have to sort out.  Luckily, I was able to salvage my music and most of the important stuff with the help of a friend.

So, now, back to getting some new music to listen to.  Many of you may like Lamb of God, and some of you may not.  Around the days of Ashes of the Wake, I may have burned myself out a little.  Lately, I've been rekindling this interest in preparation for their upcoming release in January 2012, Resolution.  Whether you like LoG or not, they have one of the best drummers in heavy metal, and they deliver some crushing southern metal.

I have their single, Ghost Walking, from their upcoming album and, honestly, I really dig it.  It's definitely got some polish on it if comparing to New American Gospel or  As the Palaces Burn, but LoG has been constantly developing their sound.  I feel they are one of the few bands to keep delivering burly heavy metal, but you can understand what Randy's screaming (most of the time).  And, Morton's ability to keep delivering super fast, but catchy riffs is genius.

Give this one a listen and look for the new album in January.

Freedom Hawk Update

So, I ordered the cd, and have been trying to get into it.  Holding On is a little different than Freedom Hawk's earlier stuff.  "Bandito" is way cool though, and "North Swell" and "Indian Summer" rock as well.  They probably could've left a few of the tracks off entirely though.  However, other than that, it's not a bad effort by the Virginia Beach band.  Overall it's a good album.  I think I just had my expectations a little too high.

BAD AS ME - Tom Waits

Well, Mr. Waits seems to have put together a mighty fine album.  Maybe it's the fact that Tom hasn't put out any new music in about seven years, but this album held me.  It feels much more cohesive than some of the stuff he's done recently.  Give it a try and then pre-order this bad boy here.

The Devils Orchard - Opeth

Getting to see Opeth was a great experience. The show was amazing, despite the fact that there was not any screaming or growling. From Mikael, anyway. I finally have the chance to upload and edit some of the video of the show. I'll be posting some of them here, but all of them on my youtube page. Check it out!

A Couple Updates

Good morning.  I've added a couple links.  First to the New Mastodon post, the whole album is up now and not just the 3 songs I had.  And, I put a better quality rip up for MonstrO

I hope everyone has a rockin' day!
